Lovefilm inks U.K. distribution deal with MGM

Studio's films to be available online and via Lovefilm Player

LONDON -- Online and postal movie renter Lovefilm has signed a U.K. distribution deal with MGM to make the studio's classic and new movies available online and on Internet-enabled devices via the Lovefilm Player.

The pact, struck for an undisclosed sum, will give Lovefilm subscribers access to a slew of MGM titles, such as "West Side Story" and the original 1974 version of "The Taking of Pelham 123."

Lovefilm CEO Simon Calver said the deal will bolster the company's digital catalog offerings.

Lovefilm online subscribers will have access to MGM classics, and new MGM releases "will be available to access instantly on a transactional basis," the parties said.
