Luc Besson’s Sci-Fi Epic 'Valerian' Gets Release Date

The Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne-starrer will hit theaters and Imax worldwide on July 21, 2017.

Luc Besson's graphic novel adaptation Valerian is to receive a worldwide release via EuropaCorp from July 21, 2017.

The Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne-starring big-screen take on the science fiction novel Valerian will also be released in Imax theaters worldwide. DeHaan is set to play the titular character, a space and time-traveling agent from a futuristic Earth, with Delevingne starring as his red-haired companion, Laureline.

Production is set to begin at the end of 2015, with Besson writing and directing the film. Virginie Besson-Silla will produce on behalf of EuropaCorp, which is financing, producing and distributing Valerian.

The adaptation of the sci-fi property created by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres in 1967 joins a EuropaCorp slate that includes The Transporter Refueled; Shut In, starring Naomi Watts, to be released on Feb. 19, 2016; and Nine Lives, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and starring Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Garner and Christopher Walken, with an April 29, 2016 release date.

EuropaCorp is also producing Escobar, to star Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz.
