Lucy Hale, Robbie Amell to Star in Rom-Com 'The Hating Game'
Peter Hutchings will direct the film, based on an adaptation of the hit Sally Thorne novel.
Lucy Hale and Robbie Amell are set to star in the romantic comedy The Hating Game, an adaptation of the popular novel by Sally Thorne to be co-financed by Mister Smith.
Hale will play kind-hearted Lucy Hutton, who launches a ruthless game of one-upmanship against her cold-efficient nemesis Joshua Templeton (Amell), only to find her rivalry is complicated by her growing attraction to him. Peter Hutchings will direct an adaptation of the Thorne novel by Christina Mengert.
Claude Dal Farra, Brice Dal Farra and Brian Keady of BCDF Pictures are producing the film. "The Hating Game is a gloriously funny and sexy rom-com with a broad audience appeal. We are aiming for films with a clear target demographic and this absolutely hits the spot," Mister Smith CEO David Garrett said in a statement.
Hale will next star in the Riverdale spinoff series Katy Keene, and the feature film Fantasy Island. Amell's movie credits include The Duff, When We First Met and The Baby Sitter, and he had a recurring role on the Flash TV series.
Hutchings just finished directing his third feature, Then Came You, a teen dramedy starring Asa Butterfield, Maisie Williams and Nina Dobrev.
Hale is repped by ICM Partners and Reel Talent Management. Amell is repped by WME, Protégé Entertainment, Strategic and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.
