M6 kicks high-def into high gear


PARIS -- French TV channel M6 is spending the summer in high definition with more than 15 hours of HD programming per week planned for the network as of June 30, the network said Wednesday.

M6 viewers will be able to watch seven hours of primetime shows in high definition each week and more than two hours of programming per day.

More than 20 of the channel's most popular series, including the Gallic comedy "Kaamelott" and U.S. hits "Desperate Housewives," "Prison Break," "NCIS" and "Bones," will air in the format.

M6 hopes to feature an average of three primetime shows in HD for an annual total of 260 hours this year, followed by 500 hours of HD programming in 2008.
