'Mad Men's' Elisabeth Moss Talks Fashion at the Vogue/CFDA Awards

The actress, who plays Peggy Olson on the AMC show, wore Azzedine Alaia to the event.

Her character Peggy Olson on Mad Men is not exactly what you'd called "fashion savvy" -- but Elisabeth Moss, who plays her, gets a little chicer every time we see her. And a few years making the rounds of red carpets have taught the actress, if not her character, a thing or two about clothes. Fash Track caught up with her on October 20 at the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund event at the Chateau Marmont, which included a spring 2012 fashion show direct from New York from designers such as Joseph Altuzurra, Ohne Titel and Cushnie et Ochs. We talked to Moss about her outfit, the colors she loves, and all that girly stuff.

Fash Track: What is this cool skintight dress you're wearing?

Elisabeth Moss: It's Azzedine Alaia.

FT: What did you see at this show that you've got to have?

EM: I love this one dress that Ohne Titel did in orangey red and cream, it was so beautiful. I mean, I love red. Every woman loves red, but this dress was particularly amazing because it had some cream colored snake detail on it, with a halter neckline, and it had an uneven hem -- short in the front and long in the back, which is such a sassy take on the classic sort of red dress.

FT: Are you a summer clothes kind of girl?

EM: Well, I loved the white eyelets this line did. The eyelet was a little bit different, even though the shape was just classic summer dress -- the whole cutout thing made it more interesting. And there was one amazing black dress that every woman should have. My friend Jennifer Westfeldt would look great in it.

FT: What are you craving in terms of fall purchases you'd like to make?

EM: I'm a big jewelry person, and I've been into this woman named Dana Levy lately, a Chicago based jewelry designer who's website is www.danarebeccadesigns.com. She does a lot of rose gold pieces, simple pieces like one with a little diamond; it's very feminine, but also very classic and girly. She has amazing things that are not like half a million dollars. I just bought one necklace for me and one for my best friend. That's my shopping obsession right now.
