Maddox named exec vp at CNN Int'l

NEW YORK -- Tony Maddox has been named CNN International's new executive vp/managing director, the company said Tuesday.

Maddox replaces Chris Cramer, who resigned this year after 12 years in the job. Maddox, formerly senior vp news operations at CNN Worldwide, will report to CNN Worldwide president Jim Walton.

His new role will give him responsibility for, among other things, five CNN English-language channels, CNN en Espanol, International, joint ventures with other networks and worldwide newsgathering operations. He will work out of the network's Atlanta headquarters, where he has managed the international news desk and supervised CNN's worldwide bureaus.

Maddox started in 1998 at CNN as London-based managing editor for European, Middle Eastern and African coverage. Before that, he worked for 13 years at the BBC as a reporter, producer and executive.
