Madrid to host 2010 MTV EMAs

Second time the country has hosted the annual ceremony

LONDON -- MTV Networks International has unveiled Madrid as the host country for the annual MTV Europe Music Awards in 2010.

The ceremony, televised live across Europe and also broadcast internationally, will be held on Nov. 7, 2010.

It is the second time the event has been to Spain in its 17-year history; it was staged in Barcelona in 2002. The 2009 EMAs took place in Berlin and featured performances by Jay-Z and U2.

"Madrid is the ideal host city for this year's event as we are also celebrating the 10th anniversary of MTV Spain," said Antonio Campo Dall'Orto, EVP of music brands and managing director of South Europe for MTVNI, in a statement. "The spirit, culture and vitality of the city and its people coupled with MTV's ability to deliver unique, star-studded experiences promise to make this year's EMAs truly spectacular."
