Magnolia acquires 'Ondine'

Romantic fantasy film set in Ireland stars Colin Farrell

Magnolia Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to Neil Jordan's "Ondine," starring Colin Farrell, Stephen Rae and Alicja Bachleda.

The film, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, is a romantic fantasy set in Ireland, with Farrell playing a fisherman who discovers a mysterious woman with mermaid-like qualities.

Written, directed and produced by Jordan, the film also was produced by Ben Browning and James Flynn for Wayfare Entertainment and exec produced by Michael Maher and Peter Rawlinson.

"Ondine" will be released in the summer as part of Magnolia's Ultra VOD program, debuting on VOD systems a month before its theatrical release.

The deal was negotiated by Magnolia senior vp Tom Quinn and vp acquisitions Dori Begley, with CAA -- which also packaged the project -- and Wayfare's Browning.
