Magnolia has a line on 'Wire'

"Man on Wire," a documentary about a World Trade Center tightrope-walker that won two top prizes at Sundance, has been picked up for North American theatrical and DVD distribution by Magnolia Pictures.

James Marsh's documentary chronicles French acrobat Philippe Petit's high-wire walk between the twin towers in 1974, combining archival footage, re-enactments and interviews to draw a portrait of the event. Magnolia plans a late summer theatrical release.

The film was produced by the U.K. Film Council and by Wall to Wall in association with Red Box Films for Discovery Films

"Wire" won the world cinema jury and world cinema audience documentary awards last month in Park City. Submarine's Josh Braun repped the film, which is based on Petit's book "To Reach the Clouds."

Gregg Goldstein reported from New York; Steven Zeitchik reported from Los Angeles.
