'Malcolm & Marie': Read the Script for the Zendaya-Starring Awards Contender

Zendaya and John David Washington in 'Malcolm & Marie.'

'Malcolm & Marie' was shot in a modern home in Carmel that gave DP Marcell Rév "an exterior and an interior in one location."

The Sam Levinson movie is set for a Feb. 5 release.

Malcolm & Marie is a whirlwind of an awards contender. Conceived and shot during the COVID-19 lockdown, it then sold out of the virtual TIFF market by Netflix and was set for a Feb. 5 premiere.

Zendaya and John David Washington star in the movie from writer-director Sam Levinson as a couple in the middle of an epic lover's quarrel after coming home from a movie premiere. Washington plays rising star filmmaker Malcolm, who forgot to thank his girlfriend Marie (Zendaya) during his speech at the premiere, an omission that spurs a larger conversation about their relationship and each of their roles within it.

"Sam Levinson's intense chamber drama explores the complex contracts of partnership while also examining life inside the bubble of the entertainment business, in particular the way artists can suck up all the oxygen in a relationship," reads The Hollywood Reporter review of the movie.
