Manchester Derby Becomes Most-Watched English Premier League Soccer Match in U.S. Cable History

NBC Sports’ broadcast of Sunday’s crucial clash averaged 1.1 million viewers.

While the result may have been a disaster for fans of last year’s English Premier League champions Manchester City (and any chance of it retaining the title), the club’s 4-2 defeat on Sunday at the hand of arch-rivals Manchester United was a victory for NBC Sports.

The network’s coverage of the match averaged 1.1 million views, becoming the most-watched EPL game in U.S. cable history, topping ESPN’s broadcast of the same Manchester derby in 2013, which hit an audience of 1 million.

The match also become the third-most streamed EPL match ever on NBC Sports Live Extra, with just under 75,000 uniques.

For the first time since it started its EPL coverage in August 2013, Sunday’s match saw NBC Sports’ entire Premier League team work together on-location in the U.K.
