First Look: Margot Robbie in Tarantino's Sharon Tate Drama
The actress shared a photo of herself as the late Tate from the set of Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.'
Months after it was announced that she would star as Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Margot Robbie took to Instagram on Monday morning to share a first look at her character in the forthcoming drama.
In the photo, Robbie — channeling the late actress Tate, dressed in '60s attire — leans against a wall as she stares at the camera. "First look," she captioned the photo. "#OnceUponATimeInHollywood"
Sony Pictures announced the project in February. Tarantino — who is directing and producing the film, for which he also wrote the script — describes it as "a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood."
The film is based on the brutal murder of Tate. The wife of Roman Polanski was pregnant when she was killed by Charles Manson's followers in 1969 inside her Cielo Drive home. The movie also stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, who play Tate's acquaintances Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth, respectively.
At this year's CinemaCon, Tarantino said Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is "probably the closest to Pulp Fiction that I have done."
Earlier this summer, it was revealed that Luke Perry, Damian Lewis and Dakota Fanning joined the film's star-studded ensemble, which also includes Emile Hirsch, Timothy Olyphant, Kurt Russell, Burt Reynolds and more.
"I've been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was 7 years old," Tarantino has said of the film. "I'm very excited to tell this story of an L.A. and a Hollywood that don't exist anymore. And I couldn't be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio and Pitt as Rick and Cliff."
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set to be released July 26.
