Mark Wahlberg's 'The Gambler' to World Premiere at AFI Fest

Tossing its hat into the awards season ring, Paramount Pictures’ The Gambler will have its world premiere Nov. 10 as a gala screening at AFI Fest, the festival announced Monday. Directed by Rupert Wyatt from a screenplay by William Monahan, the film stars Mark Wahlberg as an English professor involved in high-stakes gambling.

The film also stars John Goodman, Brie Larson, Michael Kenneth Williams and Jessica Lange. It was produced by Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Irwin Winkler, Robert Chartoff and David Winkler. It opens in theaters Dec. 19.

The film, based on the 1974 The Gambler, written by James Toback and directed by Karel  Reisz, will screen at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood as part of AFI Fest, which opens with the previously announced premiere of J.C. Chandor’s A Most Violent Year on Nov. 6 and runs through Nov. 13 at various venues in Hollywood.
