Peter Berg's film looks at the Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath.
Peter Berg’s Patriots Day has been selected to serve as the closing-night film at AFI Fest and will screen on Nov. 17 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
The film stars Mark Wahlberg as Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders as it offers an account of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath. The cast also includes Kevin Bacon, John Goodman, J.K. Simmons and Michelle Monaghan. CBS Films and Lionsgate will release Patriots Day theatrically on Dec. 23.
“Patriot’s Day is a moving tribute to the strength of the human spirit, the heroes of Boston and our nation's capacity to unify in the wake of the unimaginable,” festival director Jacqueline Lyanga said Friday in a statement. “Peter Berg brings together a riveting ensemble cast whose emotional performances beautifully humanize and personalize the people whose lives have been forever changed.”
AFI Fest is set to open Nov. 10 with the world premiere of Warren Beatty’s Rules Don't Apply.
