Marrakech film festival heavy on British fare

Youssef Chahine tribute also slated for November event

PARIS -- The eighth edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival will serve up a hearty portion of British fare with Russian and Moroccan titles on the side, organizers said Tuesday.

The nine-day festival, which kicks off Nov. 14, will celebrate 40 years of British cinema with a retrospective of more than 40 titles and tributes to Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick and Joseph Losey.

The festival will pay a posthumous tribute to Youssef Chahine by screening the Egyptian director's top works for festgoers alongside seven titles by Russian filmmaker Andrei Konchalovsky.

The host country's own filmmaking prowess will be honored with a special sidebar, 50 Years of Moroccan Cinema.
