Martin reups with 'Law' squad

Jesse L. Martin has inked a deal to return to NBC's "Law & Order" next season.

The actor will appear in at least 13 episodes of the series, from Universal Media Studios (formerly NBC Universal Television Studio) and Wolf Films.

Next season will mark Martin's ninth portraying Detective Ed Green on the series, from creator/executive producer Dick Wolf. "L&O" returns for its 18th season in the fall.

Martin's deal comes on the heels of Jeremy Sisto signing on to play a detective, replacing Milena Govich (HR 6/1). Fred Thompson also recently announced his decision to leave the series; his role of district attorney will be filled by "L&O" veteran Sam Waterston (HR 5/31).

Martin next appears in the film "Caretakers" and is set to play Marvin Gaye in the feature film "Sexual Healing." The singer-actor's other recent credits include the film "Rent."

His deal was brokered by his reps at Endeavor and Bob McGowan of McGowan Management.
