Says Scorsese: "Lois Smith was a legend: warm, wise, funny and generous -- one of the sharpest people in the business. She was my friend, and I am lucky to have known and worked with her."

TCM will air the tribute along with showings of "The Twelve Chairs" and "The Producers."

Martin Scorsese will present Mel Brooks with the American Film Institute’s 41st Life Achievement Award at the black-tie gala, which will be held at the Dolby Theatre on June 6.
