Martin Scorsese tapped for MPAA honor

Filmmaker will receive Jack Valenti Humanitarian Award

NEW YORK -- The MPAA will honor Martin Scorsese with the Jack Valenti Humanitarian Award as part of its second biennial "The Business of Show Business" symposium in Washington on April 21.

The award, named for the legendary MPAA leader, is presented to industry people "whose work exemplifies a dedication to humanity and community."

Scorsese will receive the honor during a private dinner capping off the daylong industry showcase in Washington.

The director "for decades has exemplified an extraordinary sense of community both on and off screen," MPAA chairman and CEO Dan Glickman said.

Clint Eastwood received the first Jack Valenti Humanitarian Award in 2007.
