Martin Scorsese's 'The 50 Year Argument' Trailer Puts New York Review of Books Next to Playboy
"We were not seeking to be part of an establishment; we were seeking to examine establishments"
The first trailer for the documentary The 50 Year Argument puts The New York Review of Books next to Playboy and Newsweek on the nightstands of fathers everywhere.
The HBO doc from Martin Scorsese and David Tedeschi highlights the five-decade history of the publication.
"As long as we could pay the printer, we could publish anything we wanted," the trailer notes. "The Review is based on the idea that highly skillful, intelligent people can write about any subject."
As for its mission? "We were not seeking to be part of an establishment; we were seeking to examine establishments."
The film is narrated by Boardwalk Empire's Michael Stuhlbarg. It plays at the Toronto and New York film festivals before airing Sept. 29 on HBO.
