Matt Lauer Re-creates Famous Tom Cruise "Glib" Interview With Andy Cohen
"I've been looking forward to this all week," said Cohen.
Andy Cohen had Today anchors Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday night, and he was eager to ask Lauer to re-create his famous awkward interview with Tom Cruise about psychiatry.
"I've been looking forward to this all week," said Cohen, joking that Lauer was part of the "glib-eral" media, a reference to the "glib" insult Cruise flung at Lauer in 2005.
Before he put on his Cruise wig to impersonate the actor, Lauer said he wanted to clarify that he and Cruise are now on good terms. "I like Tom Cruise. We have a good relationship. We have a good friendship. It was just one little moment, OK?"
"I would like to relive that moment," replied Cohen, laughing.
They sat in front of the green screen and took on their new personas. "You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do," said Lauer as Cruise. "There's no such thing as chemical imbalance."
Cohen pretended to be the anchor, reciting his lines while Lauer pointed to him and joked about how handsome he was. "Matt, you're glib" said Lauer as Cruise.
After the role play was over, Lauer returned to defending Cruise. "I think he got such a bum rap for that, and to be honest, he was a real mensch after that. He came and he apologized."
