Current EFM head Becki Probst will take on the new position of president of the EFM.

Matthijs Wouter Knol has been named the new head of the European Film Market, taking over from long-time boss Becki Probst, who will take on the newly created position of president of the EFM.

The Dutch-born Knol will take over the running of Berlin's film market on June 1. Knol has been program manager at the Berlinale Talents, Berlin's weeklong film school for up-and-coming international film talents, since 2008.

"Matthijs Wouter Knol will inspire new areas of business and the development of the European Film Market,” said Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick, announcing his appointment. “With Knol, a professional is joining us who knows the festival well. He will strategically strengthen the synergies that have developed between the festival and the EFM.”

In her new position as EFM President, Probst will use her long-established international network to help establish Knol in his new job and will support him as an advisor.
