Maureen Taran appointed at Epix

Talent veteran named vp of original programming live events

NEW YORK -- Epix said Wednesday that talent veteran Maureen Taran has joined the premium network as vp of original programming live events, effective immediately.

"Her proven ability to discover the 'next big thing' and cultivate and shape talent to help ensure long-term commercial success will be a great value for Epix," said Laverne McKinnon, executive vp of original programming and development, to which Taran reports.

Prior to joining Epix, which is a joint venture of Lionsgate, MGM and Viacom, comedy veteran Taran was the supervising producer for Showtime's celebrity talk show "The Green Room with Paul Provenza."

She previously also worked for the Just For Laughs comedy festival as vp of programming and consulted industry players through her own firm The Taran Company. Before that, she worked as a talent manager, working with such comedians as Dane Cook, Dave Chappelle, Jim Gaffigan, Wanda Sykes and Tracy Morgan, among many others.

Taran will work on expanding the Epix slate of music and comedy events. It has so far had live event content from the likes of Madonna, Black Eyed Peas, Eddie Izzard and Lewis Black.
She said she is certain that actors, writers and comedians she has worked with over the years "will be eager to bring their creative ideas to the supportive, talent-friendly environment at Epix."
