Maurice Jarre set for Berlinale honor

Composer will receive lifetime Golden Bear

BERLIN -- Oscar-winning composer Maurice Jarre will be honored with a lifetime achievement Golden Bear at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival.

The French composer is best known for his work with British director David Lean. He won three Oscars with arrangements for Lean films: "Lawrence of Arabia," "Doctor Zhivago" and "A Passage to India."

The Berlinale, which is set to run Feb. 5-15, will screen a series of films featuring Jarre's work as a homage to the music pioneer.

The composer will receive his Golden Bear at a ceremony Feb. 12 in Berlin.
