Media Asia to keep 'Infernal Affairs'

Fortissimo in rights talks with Tartan, Palisades

HONG KONG – Hong Kong production company Media Asia said Friday it would retain rights to the "Infernal Affairs" trilogy previously licensed to the collapsed distributor Tartan Films, which sold last month to Palisades Media.

Media Asia and its U.K. subsidiary Ballcrown said it would also retain rights to the Wong Kar Wai films "Days of Being Wild" and "As Tears Go By," and to Feng Xiaogang's "A World Without Thieves" and Johnnie To's "Breaking News."

Los Angeles-based Palisades Media bought Tartan's 400-film catalog in early July as part of a drive into digital delivery.

As one of the major distributors of Asian films in the U.K., Tartan also held rights to Wong's "In the Mood For Love," a Fortissimo Films catalogue title. Fortissimo now is in talks with Tartan and Palisades about handling of distribution rights of individual titles.
