Media firm Kagan bought by SNL group

Media analysis firm Kagan Research said Wednesday that it has been purchased for an undisclosed amount by SNL Financial, which has used its new acquisition to create SNL Media & Communications.

Kagan has been providing forecasting and financial data about the entertainment industry since 1969. It is headquartered in Monterey, Calif.

SNL was founded in 1987 and provides similar information about the energy, real estate and financial industries. It's headquartered in Charlottesville, Va., with locations throughout the world.

The company said Wednesday that its media and communications business will cover 260 companies and provide such metrics as subscriber counts and churn rates, merger and acquisition news, capital offerings, conference call transcripts, advertising revenue splits and more.

"The lack of a consolidated electronic-information source in the media communications field presented a gap we felt SNL could fill with our trademark level of depth and accessibility," SNL group director Dan Seideman said.
