MediaCorp, Madhouse ready 3-D

'Penguin' could mark start of greater collaboration

SINGAPORE -- MediaCorp. and leading Japanese animation company Madhouse are teaming to produce a $13 million, 3-D CGI anime film set for theatrical release in mid-2009.

"Yona Yona Penguin," about the adventures of three characters from three different worlds, will be directed by leading anime guru Rintaro and presented in two original versions: Japanese and French with English subtitles.

Lucas Chow, CEO of MediaCorp, which also will distribute the film in Singapore and Malaysia, said the project could be the first step to a potential long-term collaboration with Madhouse.
