Medienboard tabs films for funding

$2.7 mil in subsidies will go to 15 projects

BERLIN -- Regional German funding body Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg has announced 1.8 million euros ($2.7 million) in subsidies for a total of 15 projects, with Rainer Matsutani's "Rox!" and Detlev Buck's "Wohin Du auch gehst" getting 300,000 euros ($440,000) and 200,000 euros ($293,000), respectively.

"Rox!," to be produced by Munich's Sam Film, is a teenage gang drama set in Berlin, but takes a different approach than previous German efforts to portray youth violence, taking a path "more like 'The Outsiders,' " according to its director. The film marks Matsutani's return to cinematic features after several high-profile television movies.

"Wohin Du auch gehst" tells the supposedly true story of a young German who falls in love with an HIV-infected Cambodian bar girl. David Kross, who plays the lead in the upcoming "The Reader" opposite Kate Winslet, will star.
