The Montreal genre festival also adds Fede Alvarez's horror thriller 'Don't Breathe' and Jeff Maher's 'Bed of the Dead' to its lineup.

Blood Father — an action thriller directed by French filmmaker Jean-François Richet (Mesrine) and starring Mel Gibson, William H. Macy and Erin Moriarty — is headed to the Fantasia Film Festival for a North American premiere, after bowing in Cannes.

The Montreal genre film fest will also close with co-writer/director Fede Alvarez's horror thriller Don't Breathe, which reunites the director with Evil Dead star Jane Levy, and which debuted at SXSW, organizers said Wednesday. Sam Raimi is producing and Sony Pictures is releasing Don't Breathe in North America on Aug. 26.

Blood Father, set for a U.S. release by Lionsgate, features Gibson as an ex-con trying to protect his estranged 16-year-old daughter from drug dealers who want her dead. As Fantasia unveiled the final lineup for its 20th edition, the fest also announced world premieres for Rurouni Kenshin's sci-fi thriller The Top Secret: Murder in Mind, starring Keishi Ohtomo; Croatian filmmaker Nevio Marasovic's Goran; and Bite director Jeff Maher's Bed of the Dead.

There's also international premieres for Kiyotaka Taguchi's Ultraman X: The Movie; Kim Tae-Gon's Familyhood, starring Kim Hye-soo; and Japanese comedy master Minoru Kawasaki's Kaijyu Mono. And Yeon Sang-Ho's Train to Busan will get a North American bow after premiering in Cannes.

Fest organizers earlier said Mexican horror master Guillermo del Toro will receive the Cheval Noir Award at the upcoming event, which runs from July 14 to Aug. 2.

July 7 10:45 a.m. Updated to indicate Don't Breathe is the official closing night film at Fantasia.
