Meredith Vieira's Talk Show Renewed for Second Season

NBCUniversal predicts the syndicated daily program will continue to grow its audience and “emerge as a staple in daytime”

Less than two months into its first season, The Meredith Vieira Show has been renewed for a second season by NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution.

The syndicated show anchored on the NBC owned stations in major markets reaches about 98 percent of U.S. TV homes.

“With its singular host and talented producers,” said Ed Swindler, president NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution and NBC Broadcast Operations, “Meredith has grown creatively since launch, continues to gain viewers and we are optimistic it will emerge as a staple in daytime.”

Since it premiered Sept. 8, Meredith has gotten off to a soft start. In the most recent national ratings, for the week that ended Oct. 19, it was the 67th most watched show in TV syndication, ranking just below Jerry Springer. The top rated talk show is Dr. Phil, which attracts about 3.2 million households a day. 

Meredith is attracting about 1.5 million households a day (a 1.2 household rating); with a 0.2 rating among women 18 to 34; a 0.5 rating among women 18 to 49; and a 0.7 rating in the key demo of women 25 to 54. Dr. Phil has a 1.7 rating among women 25 to 54, the group that advertisers primarily buy in daytime.

“Meredith is genuine, smart, warm and funny,” said Valari Staab, president, NBCUniversal owned television stations, “and she has our strong support to help her continue to grow her show in this very challenging day part.”
