Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson and Karen Elson are just a few of the celebrities wearing liquid gold.

With a theme like "China: Through the Looking Glass," it was safe to expect opulence at this year’s Met Gala. And gold seemed to be a running theme in many attendees' gowns.

Co-chair Wendi Murdoch, Anna Wintour and Lizzy Caplan all wore gowns inflected with gold details, but other top names went fully gilded on the red carpet.

Jessica Chastain was among the actresses who showed their love for metallic. She wore an old Hollywood-style deep-V halter Givenchy gown that was almost reflective. Kate Hudson turned heads in a completely gold sequin-crusted high-neck gown, along with a crystal-crusted headpiece and red lips.

Anne Hathaway dripped in gold lamé, wearing a Ralph Lauren gown that actually had a draped hood. Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner wore a slinky gold Burberry slip dress. Mad Max: Fury Road actress Courtney Eaton donned a heavy-looking embroidered gold tea-length gown and headpiece.

Designer Tabitha Simmons went all out, in a body-armor-like gown and elaborate headdress. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley covered just strategic bits of her enviable bod in a golden cutaway gown. And supermodel Karen Elson was strapped into a jeweled Dolce & Gabbana metal corset that made her look like quite a medieval princess.
