MGTS hooking up 2 mil with digital service

Upgrade project to be complete by 2012

MOSCOW -- MGTS, Moscow's main landline operator, will provide 2 million of its subscribers with digital TV service by 2012, the company said Thursday.

The project, the cost of which estimated at $50 million-$90 million, will launch in 2009, covering about half of MGTS' subscriber base.

The project will be implemented as part of the company's upgrade from analog equipment to digital. Under a government-sponsored program, Russia is scheduled to switch to digital by 2015.
