Michael Alexander Promoted to SVP of International, Island Def Jam, Motown and Republic Records

The former IDJ vice president has worked on campaigns of such artists as Fall Out Boy, Rihanna, the Killers, and Kanye West.

Universal Music Group (UMG) has promoted Michael Alexander to senior vice president of Island Def Jam, International, Motown, and Republic Records, announced chairman and CEO of the company's East Coast labels (which include all the aforementioned labels), Barry Weiss. Alexander was formerly vice president of Island Def Jam.

“With Mike, you have a true creative executive who thinks globally," wrote Weiss in a statement announcing the appointment. "His ability to craft intelligent international campaigns for our artists has proven to be an invaluable resource when it comes to the artist’s success around the world.”

Previously, Alexander worked on the campaigns of artists like Fall Out Boy, Rihanna, the Killers and Kanye West. In his expanded role he will oversee the campaigns of artists under UMG's East Coast labels, including international marketing, publicity, and promotions.

After starting as an assistant at Island Def Jam in 2005, Alexander spent the next eight years steadily working up the UMG ladder, culminating in his appointment to vice president of IDJ last year.
