Michael Bass tapped at NBC Universal


NEW YORK -- NBC Universal named former "Early Show" executive producer Michael Bass senior vp strategic initiatives.

Bass will work on strategy for the company including content, international and digital growth, among other priorities. He will report to NBC Universal president and CEO Jeff Zucker said.

Among the events he'll be working on will be upfront strategy, cross-platform programming for the 2009 Super Bowl and local news coverage.

"As we continue to grow and become more of a global media company, Michael will play a vital role ensuring that we maximize opportunities and collaborate across all divisions," Zucker said.

This appointment returns Bass to NBC, where he began as a producer for the NBC Sports coverage of the 1988 Summer Olympics and was a producer of "Today" in 1989 and had worked as senior broadcast producer from 1995-2001, among other jobs. He was senior executive producer of "The Early Show" and other CBS shows since May 2002.

The Harvard graduate was an Olympics researcher at ABC Sports from 1983-85.
