Michael C. Hall Is Glitter and Glam in 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch' First Look
The 'Dexter' star tackles Broadway in heels, following Andrew Rannells and Neil Patrick Harris
Dexter has officially gone glam.
The first images of Michael C. Hall for Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway were released on Monday, with the star of Showtime's serial-killer drama donning a full face of makeup and emotion.
Hedwig — which has a book by John Cameron Mitchell and music and lyrics by Stephen Trask — centers on an East German transgender rocker searching for love and completeness in America. The lead character of the Tony-winning musical revival was previously played by Neil Patrick Harris and is currently rocked by Andrew Rannells, who will play his final performance on Oct. 12.
In comparison to Harris' key art, Hall's two shots (see larger versions below) feature the lead in full color. However, he's not wearing the hot-pink lip shade or glittering blue nail polish that is showcased in Rannells' artwork. Instead, Hall wears a deep red lipstick and nail polish — possibly channeling the holiday season with which his stage run overlaps.
Even more so, his facial expressions — a furrowed brow in one shot, and a straight-on look into his eyes in another — showcase the deep pain and hurt of his character rather than the enticing attitude of the rocker that has been captured by the show's now-signature open-mouth pose.
