Michael Fitzgerald wins Eurasia fest prize

Honored for contributions to the world film industry

MOSCOW -- U.S. producer Michael Fitzgerald was awarded the prize "for the prominent contribution to the development of the world film industry" at the fifth Eurasia international film festival, which ended last weekend in the Kazakh capital of Astana.

Kyrgyz Republic director Bolotbek Shamshiyev was the other recipient of the prize.

The festival's prize for best film went to "Farewell, Gulsary!" by Kazakh director Ardak Amirkulov, while his compatriot Adilkhan Yerzhanov collected the best director's prize for "Bakhytzhamal."

Russia's Irina Ageykina picked up the best actress award for her role in the French/Kazakh/Russian co-production "Song of Southern Seas."

Uzbekistan's Dias Rakhmatov and Kazakhstan's Bakhytzhan Alpeisov shared the best actor prize for their performances in "Small People" and "Together With Father," respectively.

The special jury prize went to "Unknown Route," directed by Kyrgyzstan's Temir Birnazarov.
