The one-night-only event marks 40 years since the King of Pop released his first solo single and will run over four hours.

Members of Michael Jackson’s family along with representatives from Global Live Events convened on the Beverly Hills Hotel Monday morning for their first major announcement since the release of the feature film This Is It.

The company and the family are teaming up for “Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert,” to be held one time only on October 8. The date marks 40 years since Jackson released his first solo single, “Got To Be There” and will feature a yet-to-be-announced slate of music stars.

The concert will be held in Great Britain at Cardiff, Wales’s Millennium Stadium, Europe’s largest indoor arena which seats 75,000. Despite the large venue, Global Live Events President Chris Hunt promised a “truly intimate theatrical experience” that will clock in at no “less than four hours.”

Matriarch Katherine Jackson thanked Hunt and Global Live Events for keeping her son's legacy alive. Siblings LaToya, Tito, Jackie and Marlon shared the sentiment.

"My brother would be proud to see artists he admired and respected very much come together," Tito Jackson said. Father Joe Jackson and siblings Jermaine and Janet Jackson were not in attendance.

Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit three of Michael’s favorite charities, including AIDS Project Los Angeles and The Prince's Trust. LaToya Jackson noted that during his lifetime, her brother gave $100 million of his own money to philanthropic causes.

"My brother was all about making the world a better place. It will be one of the biggest shows ever," Jackie Jackson added.

LaToya Jackson said the tribute is far overdue. “My brother was an entertainer that no one could stand up to, hold a candle to as far as talent is concerned," she said.

During the conference, Hunt also announced that Global Live Events had set up a trust fund for Jackson’s three children for when they each turn 21. Katherine Jackson choked up a bit when he handed her a check for $100,000.

The line-up and ticketing procedure will be announced at a London press conference on August 3. Tickets will go on sale exclusively through www.michaelforevertribute.com starting August 4.
