Michael Kors Celebrated NYFW With Models and Duran Duran

Michael Kors, Kate Upton - P 2015

We expect nothing less.

If there's one thing Michael Kors knows how to do, it's put on a show — and not just on the runway. On Sunday night, the fashion designer celebrated twofold: another New York Fashion Week under his belt as well at the launch of The Michael Kors Gold Fragrance Collection at the Boom Boom Room, the Top of the Standard.

The event turned out a number of Kors' most devoted ladies, all decked in his deigns: Kate Upton, Camilla Belle, Naomi Campbell, Alexandra Richards, Hailee Steinfeld, Jaime King and Nina Agdal. "He's a Leo and he loves me because I'm a Leo, so we have this special bond," said Richards.

The promise of a surprise performer kept the evening buzzing. "Oh you didn't hear?" Upton joked, "It's me! I am so sorry." Although we're sure the statuesque blond was happy with the actual entertainment for the evening — Duran Duran — she mentioned that her all- time favorite musician she's caught live is Britney Spears. "I really want to go to her Vegas show!"

Kors had a special reason for selecting the famed '80s and '90s rock band to perform. "Oh my God, for me, I couldn't truly name how many fashion show I've done over the years that had a Duran Duran moment in the show. Yasmin Le Bon was modeling in a Michael Kors show and her daughter I think, she and Simon got married very shortly thereafter. I've known the family a really long time. It's glamorous, it's energetic, it's optimistic, its sexy," Kors, clad in a classic dark suit and sunglasses, declared. "It's everything Michael Kors is about. It's a good match."

As for his favorite song? " 'Girls on Film.' I think I've used it in two fashion shows." It's fitting then that the band ended their six-song set, a combination of classics and new music from their album Paper Gods, released Friday, with Kors' favorite. A number of the people in the packed room — which was so tight to the front of the stage that guests couldn't exit once the band started — headed out after Duran Duran's performance to China Chalet, where Opening Ceremony held its afterparty with Svedka Vodka, and Jessica Alba hopped around gleefully snapping photos (and sipping nonalcoholic beverages), surrounded by downtown club kids.
