Former Dawson’s Creek bad girl Michelle Williams’ film choices have followed the same careful thoughtful trajectory as her demure, gamine and fiercely independent red carpet fashions. Oscar-nominated for Brokeback Mountain and Blue Valentine, she’s also earned raves for her disparate roles in Wendy and Lucy, Synecdoche, New York and Shutter Island.

She next plays the iconic sex symbol Marilyn Monroe (yeah, not too daunting) in My Week with Marilyn which premieres at the New York Film Festival on Oct 9. And she’s already switched gears for Disney’s Oz: The Great and Powerful in which she plays Glinda, the good you-know-what.

As for her fashion statements, she's had several Peak Red Carpet moments in the past few years. Who can forget her then shocking, now iconic bold marigold Vera Wang gown at the 2006 Oscars? Or the pixie hair trend she inspired with a boyishly snipped platinum do at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.  Critics raved about the white beaded Chanel couture short-sleeve beaded gown on this year's Oscar carpet. And she stepped away from the fashion pack with a sweet daisy-themed chiffon Valentino at the 2011 Globes.  Surely you've heard about the red lace Erdem dress  she wore at the 2010 London premiere of Blue Valentine, accessorized with mismatched animal print pumps (one tiger print, the other leopard)

Given her impressive slate of recent films, we fully expect to see a lot of Michelle -- and her fashions -- during the upcoming Awards Season. And she kicks off the season when she accepts the Hollywood Film Festival’s 2011 Best Actress Award on Oct 14.

She earned the early honor for her combined work in Meek’s Cutoff, Sarah Polley’s Take This Waltz, (no release date yet) and Marilyn, which also stars some serious A-list actors including Kenneth Branagh, Dominic Cooper, Judi Dench, Derek Jacobi, along with talented new face Eddie Redmayne and Harry Potter alum Emma Watson.

We're waiting breathlessly for her first red carpet stroll at the New York Film Feston Oct. 9 and at the Hollywood Awards on Oct 14. The buzz is that Harvey Weinstein is mounting a major Oscar campaign for Michelle and the Marilyn film. And you know how Harvey gets.
