The more compact gaming console will cost $299.

Microsoft has confirmed that it is making a more compact version of its highly anticipated next-gen Xbox Series X console.

"Let's make it official! Xbox Series S | Next-gen performance in the smallest Xbox ever," the company tweeted from the official Xbox Twitter account overnight on Monday.

Microsoft also revealed that the Series X will cost $299, similar to the price of a Nintendo Switch. With a launch date of Nov. 10, Xbox promised that more details will be shared soon and included a picture of the white and black console design. No disc drive was visible.

The Xbox Series X console also launches Nov. 10, priced at $499. At the 2019 Game Awards, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, described the system as the "fastest, most powerful platform" from Microsoft to date.

Sony will also drop a new console, the PlayStation 5, during the holiday season.
