Mika Brzezinski and Michael Wolff Spar on 'Morning Joe' Over Rumored Trump Affair
The author got into a heated conversation over an insinuation that ambassador Nikki Haley has had an affair with President Trump.
In an appearance on Morning Joe Thursday, co-anchor Mika Brzezinski called author Michael Wolff "disgraceful" for insinuating that U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley is having an affair with President Trump.
Wolff has never said as much in public, but in an appearance on Bill Maher's show on Jan. 19, he said that people around the president believe he's having an affair. He hinted to Maher's audience that he revealed the identity of the woman involved in his book. Haley, who Wolff wrote has spent a lot of private time with Trump, denied the hinted-at allegation strongly in a Jan. 26 interview. This week, Wolff said that Haley has "embraced" the notion of the affair by denying it specifically.
"What I meant was: I found it puzzling she denied something she was not accused of," Wolff said on the show.
"Wait a minute," Brzezinski replied. "Can I just step in here?" She asked Wolff if he regrets inferring the Haley-Trump affair in the book.
"You might be having a fun time playing a little game, dancing around this, but you're slurring a woman," she said. "It's disgraceful."
After Wolff again insisted that he did not directly suggest the Haley affair, Brzezinski replied, "Come on. Are you kidding? You're on the set of Morning Joe. We don't B.S."
Brzezinski then abruptly ended the interview and threw to commercial. "I'm sorry, this is awkward, you're here on the set with us, but we're done," she said. "Michael Wolff, thank you. We're going to go to break now. Bye, everyone."
Wolff's contentious appearance was in stark contrast to how his book was first embraced on Morning Joe in early January, when it came out.
After the testy interview on Thursday, Wolff took to Twitter and slammed Brzezinski. "My bad, the President is right about Mika," he said. "To be invited on a show with the purpose of being thrown off...is the new television. In other words, I had to say what Mika wanted me to say, or else...the hook! And let me repeat: Nikki Haley has chosen to vociferously deny something she was not accused of. The last time I was on Morning Joe off camera Joe and Mika eager to gossip [sic] about who Trump might be sleeping with."
