The dramatic comedy revolves around an improv group.

Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs and Kate Micucci will star in the dramatic comedy Don't Think Twice.

Written and directed by Mike Birbiglia, who also co-stars and is producing, Don't Think Twice revolves around an improv group that loses its lease on its home theater at the same time that one of its castmembers gets chosen for the biggest sketch-comedy show on TV. The film delves into the bitterness and backstabbing that occur between friends when they realize that maybe not everyone’s going to make it after all.

Tami Sagher and Chris Gethard are also starring.

Cold Iron Pictures and The Film Arcade are financing the film, which begins production this week in New York.

Producing alongside Birbiglia are Cold Iron Pictures’ Miranda Bailey and Amanda Marshall. Ira Glass and The Film Arcade’s J. Beck and Andy Bohn are executive producing.

“I’m over the moon about filming this project with this cast, this crew and these producers,” said Birbiglia. “Miranda Bailey and the team at Cold Iron and Film Arcade are such a creative and thoughtful bunch of folks. This is exactly what I want to be doing, and I can’t wait for people to see it.”

Added Bailey: "Mike’s first feature was so endearing — I couldn’t get it out of my mind. I knew I had to work with him on his next film. After several meetings and emails of me begging, he finally relented."

In addition to his successful one-man shows Sleepwalk With Me, which won the Best of Next! Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012, and My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, Birbiglia has appeared in the films Trainwreck and The Fault in Our Stars, as well as the series Girls and Orange Is the New Black.

UTA — which reps Birbiglia, Key and Jacobs — negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers with The Film Arcade, which was represented by attorney Greg S. Bernstein.

Micucci is repped by WME and Principato-Young, and Gethard is handled by APA and AGI Entertainment Media & Management.

Key is handled additionally by Principato-Young. Jacobs also is represented by Authentic Talent. Sagher is repped by CAA and Thruline.
