Milan Fashion Week Spring 2013: Giorgio Armani Is Hot for Pants
It's true, pants of all ilks -- trousers, pajama pants, leather pants, skintight pants, flowy pants, printed pants -- are back with a vengeance, and for the most part, they have a more feminine look than ever. They're being shown with soft blouses or sexy camisoles -- but you don't often see pants for evening -- particularly in Hollywood, unless it's at a nightclub for twentysomethings in faux leather leggings.
But at his spring 2013 show in Milan, Giorgio Armani showed soft flowy pants -- some even chiffon -- for evening in a variety of ways: as soft suits, with beaded tops, with beaded jackets. Or in the most interesting way: layered, peaking out of knee-length beaded evening dresses. His color palette was watery: grey, silver, blues and greens.
Nothing about his spring 2013 collection was revolutionary, but it doesn't have to be. Armani shows his glorious red carpet gowns at Armani Prive in Paris during couture. His regular designer collection is about real clothes for real women, and there's no woman these clothes wouldn't flatter, or nowhere one could go they wouldn't look chic and appropriate.
And after having just gone to Milan recently, this reporter can tell you: The Italian city is the capital of working-woman go-everywhere underdoing it chic. And some experimental-but-understated actress will take on this evening dress-over-flowy-pants look because it's actually very cool and modern. We can totally see Cate Blanchett working this look, or Michelle Pfeiffer.
Boho meets Soho -- in very expensive fabrics.
