Billboard Music Awards: Miley Cyrus Gives Country-Tinged Performance of 'Malibu'

The show is airing live from Las Vegas on ABC.

It’s a new era of music for Miley Cyrus as she made her debut television performance of her new single, "Malibu," at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

Donning summer-ready attire, Cyrus performed a country rendition of her beach tune. During the acoustic-driven performance, Cyrus sang alongside backup singers and a full band. Visual graphics of the beach, ocean and colorful balloons from her music video played behind her. Halfway through her performance, the balloons eventually fell down onto audience members.

At the end of her performance, Cyrus became visibly emotional and choked up, as she received a standing ovation from the audience and her family members watching. Miley's sister Noah and her father Billy Ray introduced the singer, with Noah joking that it would be her sister's first performance "with pants on."

After covering the recent issue of Billboard, Cyrus announced new music on the horizon. Soon after her cover, the breezy tune that Cyrus has confirmed to be about her fiancé Liam Hemsworth, was released along with a music video. Although the tune marks a departure from Cyrus’ hip-hop-driven Bangerz album, it has received praise.

Her music video for "Malibu" has reached more than 50 million views on YouTube, and Cyrus has been passionately promoting her single across radio and television.

The Billboard Music Awards aired live at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT Sunday on ABC from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Vanessa Hudgens and Ludacris hosted. Keep up with all the latest news here.
