'Minds' maestro inks ABC Studios deal

Ed Bernero to launch TV production company

Ed Bernero has found a new home.

The "Criminal Minds" executive producer/showrunner has inked a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios.

Under the seven-figure pact, he is launching a TV production company, Bernero Prods., and has tapped his longtime agent, UTA veteran Rob Kim as producing partner.

ABC Studios developed "Minds" and produces the hit CBS crime drama with CBS TV Studios, where Bernero had been based the past five years.

Under the ABC Studios pact, Bernero will remain showrunner on "Minds" and develop series projects through the new company.

He also will remain repped by UTA following Kim's departure.

Bernero was a Chicago beat cop for 10 years before heading to Hollywood in 1996. He co-created and executive produced the NBC drama series "Third Watch" before taking the helm of "Minds." This past development season, Bernero wrote and exec produced CBS/CBS Studios' drama pilot "Washington Field."

TV lit agent Kim was at UTA for 17 years, having started in the agency's mailroom.
