Minka Kelly falls for 'True Love' pilot

'Friday Night Lights' actress joins ensemble comedy's cast

"Friday Night Lights" alumna Minka Kelly has been tapped as a lead on CBS' comedy pilot "True Love."

The project, from writer Matt Tarses ("Scrubs"), is an ensemble comedy about four friends in New York -- Henry, Kate, Larry and Connie -- who are looking for love.

Kelly will play Kate, a pretty, clean-scrubbed Midwestern who is a sweet but strong-willed romantic. Kate falls in love with Henry at the top of the Empire State Building and often tackles her cousin and best friend, Connie, to the ground in order to get her way.

"Love," produced by Sony TV and CBS Studios, is exec produced by Tarses and his sister, Sony TV-based producer Jamie Tarses.

Kelly was one of the breakout stars of "FNL," which she left last year as her character on the show, Lyla, graduated from high school.

Last pilot season, she toplined the CW's Washington-based drama pilot "Body Politic."

Kelly's comedy experience includes an arc on the WB's "What I Like About You."
