MIPCOM: FilmRise Sells Mario Lanza Doc to American Public Television

'Mario Lanza: The Best of Everything'

'Mario Lanza: The Best of Everything,' on the life and career of the legendary tenor, will air in the U.S. in November.

Producer/distributor FilmRise has sold opera documentary Mario Lanza: The Best of Everything, to American Public Television, the companies announced Wednesday.

The documentary, from British director Alan Byron (Bowie: The Man Who Changed the World) traces the life and brilliant if brief career of American tenor Mario Lanza, the man they said had “the voice from God.” In the 1940s and 1950s Lanza was the world's most famous tenor, as well as being a Hollywood film star, but his career was cut short when he died suddenly in 1959, at 38.

American Public Television will air Mario Lanza: The Best of Everything in the U.S. in November.
