MIPCOM: International Emmy Nominees Span the Globe

Contenders reflect the rising production quality worldwide.

Nominations for the 41st International Emmy Awards were unveiled Monday in Cannes -- and 19 countries are represented among the 36 contenders in nine categories. Winners will be announced at a gala Nov. 25 in New York City.

Countries that will be vying for the kudos are Angola, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, New Zealand, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and Uruguay.

This is the first time that programs from Angola and Uruguay are nominated; Britain is a perennial contender; Brazil is among the few others with multiple noms.

"Every year, the global television community competes for an Emmy, the most prestigious of all media awards, and we congratulate the 2013 nominees for their outstanding programs and performances," Bruce Paisner, president-CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said at a press event Monday during MIPCOM.

At the gala, two other previously announced awards will be handed out: The Founders Award to movie and TV producer J.J. Abrams and the Directorate Award to Anke Schäferkordt, Co-CEO of RTL Group and CEO of RTL Germany.
