MIPCOM: John Woo Boards Neo-Noir Crime Thriller 'Cognition'
Woo, whose Hollywood output includes 'Face/Off' and 'Mission: Impossible II,' is teaming with Catalyst Global Media on a TV drama set in America's Midwest and the Far East.
John Woo is returning to his Hong Kong roots as he teams with Catalyst Global Media to executive produce a new TV drama, Cognition.
The neo-noir crime thriller covers two serial killer investigations set in America’s declining Midwest and the thriving Far East. Cognition will center on an American ex-detective who travels to the Far East for a cancer cure, only to recount his memories of a failed 10-year serial killer investigation as part of his treatment.
The TV drama was created by Alex Garcia Lopez, director of cult British TV shows Utopia and Misfits. Lopez will write and direct the series, which start production in 2016.
Woo will executive produce Cognition alongside producing partner Terence Chang and senior vp Lori Tilkin. Woo is partnering on the production side with Charlotte Walls and Al Hardiman at London-based Catalyst Global Media, which originated the project.
Catalyst’s Graham Begg brokered the deal with Tilkin and Chang.
