MIPCOM: Keshet and TV Azteca to Co-Produce Spanish-Language Series

The drama, set to launch in Mexico in 2018, will be sold worldwide by Keshet International.

Israeli production and sales group Keshet International has signed up with Mexican TV giant TV Azteca to co-produce a Spanish-language series for the local and international market.

The deal, announced at Mipcom Tuesday, will see Keshet International develop the drama to co-produce with TV Azteca and distribute worldwide. As is typical for the telenovela-heavy Mexican market, the show will have a 60-episode run, with a planned launch in 2018.

Keshet is best known for its hit drama Prisoners of War, adapted by Showtime as Homeland for the U.S. Under its Keshet UK banner, the company has produced hits such as BBC One's family drama The A Word and the Channel 4 comedy Loaded.

Keshet launched its own Latin-American production outlet, Keshet MX, earlier this year. The group is already in development with Telemundo for a Spanish-language series targeting the U.S. Hispanic market and has a four-series deal with Mexico's Televisa.

Keshet has also been active on the non-scripted market, signing co-development deals with Telefe in Argentina and Chile's Mega to create a new entertainment series for the region.

TV Azteca is Mexico's second-largest media group, with three national free-to-air networks (Azteca Trece, Azteca 7 and adn40), national digital channel a+, Azteca Trece Internacional, a network reaching 13 countries in Central and South America, and the Azteca América network in the United States. Best known for its newscast Hechos, TV Azteca has been pushing into scripted drama with primetime series such as Rosario Tijeras, Nada Personal, and Las Malcriadas.
