MIPCOM: MGM, RedSeven Sign TV Joint Venture for Formats
The U.S. studio and the German company will co-produce and distribute local versions of such nonscripted fare as 'American Gladiators' and Steve Harvey's 'Funderdome' for Germany.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Worldwide Television Distribution and German production company RedSeven Entertainment have singed a multiyear joint venture to co-produce and distribute nonscripted TV formats for the German market.
The deal, announced Wednesday, will include such U.S. formats as American Gladiators and Steve Harvey’s seed-funding competition series Funderdome. Other shows MGM and RedSeven plan to adapt and pitch to local German networks include house makeover format Minor Renovations and Signed, a music reality competition in which aspiring musicians compete for a chance to sign to a major record label.
“With MGM’s proven track record of inventive formats and RedSeven’s versatile production expertise, this venture gives MGM the ability to offer German broadcasters a turn-key format and production package, allowing them to bring quality programming to viewers,” said Chris Ottinger, MGM's president worldwide television distribution and acquisitions.
Jobst Benthues, managing director of RedSeven Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Red Arrow Entertainment Group, said the MGM deal would provide an additional supply of content for the company, “allowing us to continue to expand our production output in Germany.”
RedSeven Entertainment is one of Germany's leading entertainment production houses, with such hit nonscripted titles as Germany's Next Top Model, The Biggest Loser and Married at First Sight on air.
